The Escalation Wars universe has its roots in a series of pen-and-pencil RPG/strategy campaign games that I played years ago. The rules were based on some simple custom rules, but it was enough to allow me the opportunity to be creative with each successive setting.

After having created many different settings, I sat down and began considering a new campaign scenario to play. Once the title 'The Escalation Wars' was put to the page the concepts and histories of its combatants began flooding in. The Circasians and Courata were central to these early drafts, just as they are in the current incarnation.

It took quite a bit of work to get to where I am today. However, the work has paid off. I started with a rough concept but have since developed it into a truly epic setting whose history spans millennia and involves scores of different, alien species.
